Whistler

The final stop for our road trip was Whistler. Also known as “Whistralia”, it didn’t take us long to realise where the nickname came from. Pretty much all of the staff in the local shops, restaurants and pubs were aussies. We even met someone from Perth, which was the first time for the trip.

Our time in Jasper was initially a little disrupted due to a few issues with the rental car. After several phone calls and some woeful customer service, we were sorted and scheduled to pick up a replacement vehicle in Kamloops in a few days time.

Driving the Icefields Parkway

We woke up early partly due to the rain, but also as we were checking out of our site and had a day of driving ahead. The Icefields Parkway, a 232km stretch of road linking Lake Louise with Jasper, Alberta. Rated as one of the top drives in the world, understandably one of the most anticipated parts of the trip for me.

We woke up a little sore from the previous day’s, as well as an uncomfortable night sleeping in the car. The last few nights had been fairly cold and close to zero, so we had took a break from the tent and tried sleeping in the car. Safe to say it wasn’t great.

Camping in Banff Tunnel Mountain Village

After a day of hiking at tent ridge, we said our farewells to Sarah and Robbie and made the short drive to Banff. Our accommodation for the next few days would be Tunnel Mountain Village campsite, situated right in the heart of Banff National Park, Alberta.

Tobermory is a small harbour town located about 4 hours north of Toronto, situated on the Bruce Peninsula. One side is surrounded by the Great Lake Huron, the other by Georgian Bay.
